Handling Critique

Posted by Beetle B. on Sun 24 January 2016

People’s critiques will be very subjective and very related to themselves. They may hate a character because it reminds them of someone they knew (but they won’t tell you). They do not know what you intended with the story.

If 3 or more people complain about the same thing, pay attention. But keep in mind they may only be describing the symptom, not the disease.

If someone doesn’t understand what is going on in the story, listen to him/her.

If someone lost interest in the story, find out where.

Critique from other writers can suck. They are more focused on how they would write it.

If you clearly communicate your story, they will complain it is too blatant.
